- An extremely versatile character actor and originator of several memorable characterizations in the horror film genre, Dwight Frye had a notable theatrical career in the 1920s, moving from juvenile parts to leads before entering film. A favorite actor of Broadway theatrical producer-director Brock Pemberton, he originated the part of "the Son" in his hit 1922 production of Luigi Pirandello's "Six Characters in Search of an Author". Pemberton would continue to employ Frye in Broadway productions throughout the decade. Cast with Bela Lugosi in a 1926 production of "The Devil and the Cheese", he ultimately appeared in at least two Lugosi films.
Despite (or perhaps because of) his memorable, impassioned portrayals of real estate agent-cum-madman Renfield in Tod Browning's Dracula (1931) and Fritz the sadistic hunchbacked lab-assistant in James Whale's Frankenstein (1931), the industry seemed determined to typecast Frye, and his film career would be marked with frustration. The Crime of Doctor Crespi (1935) offered him billing second only to that of villain Erich von Stroheim, but all too soon, he was consigned to playing a lackluster array of crazies, spies, red herrings, grasping heirs and bit parts. He occasionally returned to the stage in comedies, musicals, and thrillers such as "Night Must Fall" and a stage version of "Dracula".
Frye was perplexed to find that his versatility in the theatre went unnoticed in Hollywood, where he was relegated to lunatic roles and often had his parts severely cut. Indeed, in Son of Frankenstein (1939) his role was deemed as unnecessary when an abrupt switch was made from Technicolor to black-and-white after his scenes were shot.
Dwight Frye, a devout Christian Scientist, had concealed a heart-condition from his friends and family. After the outbreak of WWII, unable to enlist, he worked nights (between films and local theatre-productions) as a draftsman for the Lockheed Aircraft Co. An uncanny physical resemblance to then-Secretary of War Newton Baker led his to being signed to a substantial role in Wilson (1944), directed by Henry King, based on the life of U.S. President Woodrow Wilson, but Frye succumbed to a heart-attack on a crowded bus a few days after being cast while returning home from a movie with his son. He was buried at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Glendale, California. - Director

- Western writer Jackson Gregory was born on 12 March 1882,in Salinas, California, the son of Judge Durrell Stokes and Amelia Hartnell Gregory. He spent much of his youth living on a ranch near Point Pinos Rancho (now Pacific Grove), where his father was part owner of a sawmill. The year after Jackson's birth, the governor of California appointed his father to fill a vacancy on the Superior Court of San Luis Obispo County. D.S. Gregory, who had been practicing law since he was 20, settled in California the year after the 1849 Gold Rush. In 1860 he was named a delegate from California to the Democratic National Convention at Charleston, South Carolina. He passed away on 12 June 1889, at San Luis Obispo, just a couple of days shy of his 64th birthday. Sometime after his father's death Jackson, along with his mother and two siblings, went to live with the family of Jackson Gregory Jr., an uncle who lived in Alisal, California. Amelia Gregory died in 1916 at Berkeley.
Jackson was a member of the "Earthquake Class" (1906) of the University of California-Berkeley. In his senior year he had been the editor of the campus magazine, "Occident", and the class annual, "Blue and Gold". After graduation he became a teacher and within two years was named principal of Truckee High School in Truckee, California. Sometime during the Christmas break of 1910 Jackson married Lotus McGlashan in San Francisco. She was the daughter of a prominent lawyer and author, who had been instrumental in the development of the city of Truckee, Not long after their marriage Jackson became a newspaper reporter, working on papers in California, Illinois, Texas, New York and Cuba. He eventually returned to the Berkeley area to settle down and try his hand at writing.
He began his career as a fiction writer by contributing short stories to the pulp magazines. After a dispute with a magazine editor left him and his wife without an income, he literally spent his last penny to mail the manuscript of his first novel to a publisher. By the time the publisher's telegram came with an offer of $1000 for his story, the power to their cottage had been cut off, there was no running water and they were existing off of borrowed groceries from neighbors and friends. On the strength of the publisher's telegram Jackson was able to borrow enough money to pay back his creditors, throw a party for those who had helped them out and visit his in-laws in Truckee. When it came time for the couple to return home, their funds were so depleted that Jackson had to borrow five cents to cover the cost of their return train tickets.
He would go on to be one of America's more successful and prolific authors in the first half of the 20th century. Though the vast majority of his stories were about the American Old West, he did occasionally venture into other genres, like mysteries, fantasies or South Seas adventures. His writing formula was usually a successful combination of an abundance of action, adventure and suspense coupled with a dependable story line. His favorite settings were often areas of the American Southwest and Mexico that he grew up in or was familiar with (in his younger days he had actually been a cowboy, working on cattle ranches in Nevada).
Jackson Gregory died suddenly on the 54th anniversary of his father's death, while in Auburn, California, visiting his older brother Edward. With his wife Lotus he fathered two sons, Jackson Jr. and Roderick. - Marcelo Villamil was born on 9 May 1921 in Salina Cruz, Oaxaca, Mexico. Roberts grew up on his parents' farm. At the age of one, he was already riding a horse with his mother. As a four-year-old he won the "Salinas Stockhouse Tournament". He later worked as a stunt boy in Hollywood film production, including for stars such as Charlton Heston, James Dean, Elizabeth Taylor, Roddy McDowell and James Coburn. Roberts became involved in equestrian sports early on and won national and international titles in various disciplines, including at world championships, such as the 1950 World Championship in Equitation. Four years later he won the National Championship in Western Equitation. The young horse lover already thought about training methods and quickly distanced himself from his father's work. His breaking-in and training methods, common at the time and known as breaking horses, were too brutal to make the animals compliant.
These experiences shaped his ideas about dealing with horses throughout his life. Thirteen-year-old Monty Roberts spent a few weeks observing the lives of wild horses in the Nevada desert, concentrating on how the animals communicate with each other. After these experiences, he tried horse communication when dealing with the animals. He called the horse language he discovered and researched "Equus". When working with horses, Monty Roberts wanted to treat horses with respect, with the aim of breaking the animals in without violence. In his work he paid particular attention to body language. He called his new non-violent method "Join up", which is based on the psyche of animals and which he continued to develop over the course of his professional life. His "follow-up" method was added later. With them he manages to get wild horses used to saddles, bridles and riders within 30 minutes - completely without the use of spurs or whips.
He combines his way of working with the message: "...leaving the world a better place for horses and for people, too." Monty Roberts acquired his own farm where he worked with racing and western horses using his methods. From 1984 to 1998 he headed the California Thoroughbred Breeders' Association (CTBA), a non-profit purebred horse breeding organization. During this time he founded the "California Thoroughbred Sales", a branch of the CTBA. Monty Robert's know-how about horses also became known at the English royal court and in 1989 he accepted an invitation from the British Queen Elizabeth II. He became an official advisor to the queen and the entire royal family. In 1996 his autobiography "The man who listens to horses" was published, in which he describes the beginnings and successes of his non-violent work with horses as well as his special methods. Other books followed, such as "Horse Sense for People" (2002) and "The Horses in My Life" (2004). Robert's horse books became international bestsellers.
There were also international TV reports, appearances on talk shows and the BBC documentary "Shy Boy", which became one of the most successful TV documentaries in recent years. Roberts has also been involved in therapy with problematic young people for many years. Monty Roberts developed workshops for managers who can learn from horses how to interact with other people in a non-violent manner. He is in demand as a speaker about his insights and experiences at international institutions and large companies such as General Electric, Pfizer, JP Morgan, Minolta, VW, BMW, Toyota, Astra Zenica and International Red Cross. Monty Roberts has received many awards for his contributions to the non-violent treatment of horses, including the British Horse Society Appreciation Award in 1998, an honorary doctorate from the University of Zurich in 2002, the Family Care Network's "Circle of Serving" Award in 2010, and the Family Care Network in 2011 with the Special Consideration Award from the California Air Force Association (CAFA) or in the same year as a Member of the Royal Victorian Order from Queen Elizabeth II.

Dean Fernando, touted as one of New York University's biggest and brightest future stars has faded into some form of self imposed obscurity.
